We want to alert you to a new journal: Dignity: A Journal on Sexual Exploitation and Violence. It is edited by Dr. Donna M. Hughes of the University of Rhode Island, an original signer of Stop Surrogacy Now Statement.

The journal welcomes first-person narratives on what you have experienced or seen, book reviews, scholarly articles, literature reviews, and editorials as described below.

First Call for Papers

Dignity: A Journal on Sexual Exploitation and Violence is an open access, peer-reviewed, international, interdisciplinary journal dedicated to publishing original scholarly articles on topics related to sexual exploitation, violence, and slavery. The journal is a forum for research, discussion, and analysis on how these forms of violence harm the dignity and health of individuals, the integrity and security of communities, and the strength and character of nations. The journal is an arena for practitioners, advocates and service providers to report on interventions, movements and progress on healing individuals, rehabilitating communities and transforming states into actors where justice serves all people, regardless of sex, gender, sexual orientation, race, ethnicity, nationality, class, caste or religion. The journal encourages investigations and discussion of challenges to dignity and justice such as corruption, lack of rule of law, harmful cultural practices, and laws and policies that justify and institutionalize inequality, violence and exploitation. The journal is a forum to examine how individuals, civil societies and states have responded to improve human and civil rights. Dignity aims to contribute to the evidence-based knowledge and theoretical development of these topics to give people the tools to end sexual exploitation, violence, and slavery.

The following types of articles are welcome:

Research and Scholarly Articles on: Findings of research studies; Theoretical essays within the areas of sexual exploitation, violence, and slavery; Discussion and analysis of laws, policy, and advocacy to end these forms of violence; Evaluations of campaigns and services for victims of exploitation, violence, and slavery. (3000 to 8000 words)

Frontline Reports: First person accounts the impact of sexual exploitation, violence, and slavery on individuals and the community; Historical and contemporary efforts to organize and campaign against sexual exploitation, violence, and slavery; Historical and contemporary efforts to provide rights and services to victims; and Historical and contemporary advocacy for new laws and policies. (2000 to 5000 words)

Book and Media Reviews: Reviews of books, films, online publications, and other forms of media related to sexual exploitation and violence, as well as individual, civil society, and governmental responses. (750 to 1500 words)

Editorials: Opinions on topics related to sexual exploitation, violence, and slavery, including current political and social events, and changes in law and policies addressing sexual exploitation, violence, and slavery.

Literature Review Articles: Articles on the state of knowledge and direction of scholarship on topics related to sexual exploitation, violence, and slavery. (Contact the Editor to discuss this type of article before submitting.)
The Dignity journal is a non-profit publication hosted online in the Digital Commons at the University of Rhode Island. Published articles are openly and freely available to the public. The editors are dedicated to creating an open environment for learning and discussion. There is no fee or processing charge to authors for submitting or publishing in this journal.
