Dear friends,
It is that time of the year, when the end of year gift giving season is upon us. I imagine that your inbox looks much like mine as the requests for financial support are coming in from a wide variety of worthy organizations. It would be wonderful to be able to say to you, “Please send your gift elsewhere, as we have more than enough resources”, but as with the majority of non-profit groups, there is always more work to do with the financial resources trying to keep up! We need your gift today, now more than ever.
The experts tell us that charitable giving is down this year because of the disastrous effects of our economic hard times. They even predict that it will take months once the economy recovers, for giving to increase. So, we at CBC Central are pulling in our belts and tightening up our budget as we realistically consider what we will be able to accomplish in 2010.
Thankfully, we are on good solid ground with our great team of staff and directors – and we have good programs and activities to build upon. In 2009 we produced our documentary film, “Lines That Divide,” which has already aired on over 100 cable outlets this summer and continues to be well received all over the country and in the U.K., Australia and Canada. Sales and showings of the film are brisk! Our educational and informative email newsletters will continue to serve you, as we keep you up to date on the latest news, and our newly redesigned website, chock full of information, articles and resources is available to the world. We are excited to host the 2010 Paul Ramsey Award dinner in March, honoring Dr. Leon Kass and his important contribution to the conversations and leadership in the field of bioethics. And our voice will be heard at conferences, seminars and lectures across the country as the invitations keep coming in. I’ll be speaking in Washington, D.C. and San Diego in January!
We know the work we do at the CBC is important and necessary and effective. Just look at what we’ve accomplished this past year! We have confidence in you, our readers and supporters, that you would agree. And we trust in your continued support of our mission and vision, to advance ethical biotechnology for our shared common good.
Thank you for your end-of-year gift which helps us begin a new year strong!
With gratitude,
Jennifer Lahl
